Editing Your Expenses

Every expense in Receiptix is fully editable after you save it. You can change the merchant name, adjust dates, add or remove line items, update prices, switch categories, and modify tags. The editing experience is the same whether the expense was scanned, typed, or spoken.

Open any expense from your home screen and tap the edit button to start making changes.

What You Can Edit

Receipt Details

  • Merchant name
  • Date
  • Currency
  • Receipt-level discount
  • Tags (add, remove, or change)

Line Items

  • Add new items
  • Edit item name, quantity, price
  • Change item category
  • Adjust item-level discounts
  • Remove items

What You Can't Change

  • Source type — How the expense was originally added (scanned, manual, or voice) is recorded permanently. You can't change a manual entry to appear as a scan.
  • Uploaded file or image — The original receipt photo or PDF is attached permanently. You can't swap it out for a different file.

Rescanning a Receipt

For expenses that were originally scanned, you have a Rescan option. This sends the original image or PDF back through the AI for a fresh extraction. It's useful when the first scan missed something or got a detail wrong.

Rescan replaces your changes

If you've made manual edits to a scanned receipt, rescanning will overwrite those changes with fresh AI-extracted data. The app warns you before proceeding so you don't lose corrections by accident.

Deleting Expenses

You can delete any expense you have permission to edit. Open the expense, tap the delete option, and confirm.

Deletion is permanent

There is no undo, no trash folder, and no recovery. Once you delete an expense, it's gone. Make sure you want to remove it before confirming.

Permissions in Shared Projects

In shared projects, editing and deleting permissions depend on your role:

Project Owner

  • Edit any receipt in the project
  • Delete any receipt in the project
  • Move receipts between projects

Project Member

  • Edit your own receipts
  • Delete your own receipts
  • Cannot edit other members' receipts
  • Cannot delete other members' receipts

Personal receipts (not in a shared project) are always fully under your control. You can edit and delete them without restrictions.

Tips

Edit with Voice

If you have premium, you can use Edit with Voice to describe changes verbally instead of tapping through fields. Say something like "change the merchant to Walmart and remove the second item."

Rescan Before Editing

If a scanned receipt has many errors, try rescanning first. It's faster than correcting each field manually, and you can always tweak the results afterward.

Moving Receipts

Project owners can move receipts between projects. This is useful when an expense was logged in the wrong project or needs to be reassigned.
